Limestone Firefighters will be out this weekend for the Fill the Boot campaign to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
Firefighters will be collecting spare change from motorists at E 76th St North and N 177th East Ave from roughly 8 am to 6 pm Friday through Sunday.
Those monies are used by MDA to provide a wide variety of services to over 550 children and adults in Eastern Oklahoma who are affected by one of the 43 neuromuscular diseases covered by the association.
Those services include equipment repair for wheelchairs, leg braces, communication devices, free visits to the MDA clinic in Oklahoma City, support groups, summer camp for children and worldwide research to find treatments and cures.

Claremore, OK - Tuesday, contractors began the work installing four additional fire hydrants – paid for by the Limestone Fire Protection District – along SH-20. Work will begin at the southeast corner of SH-20 and N. 193rd East Avenue.
This year, Limestone Fire Protection District will pay for the installation of four hydrants. They hope to fund another 10 hydrants next year.
Limestone officials say that the additional hydrants will improve their access to water, thereby enhancing their fire suppression capabilities. When responding to a fire in an area without hydrants, Limestone firefighters must rely on tanker trucks – which range from 1,200 to 2,000 gallons – for water.

Collinsville, OK - Around 11:00 p.m. Limestone firefighters responded to a report of a dog in a well. Upon arrival, firefighters found a small dog at the bottom of an Aerobic Septic Tank. The cover was apparently off and the dog walked right into the hole and fell approximately 5 - 6 feet. The homeowner made several attempts to rescue the dog before calling the fire department. It took firefighters about 20 minutes to pull the dog out safely from the tank.

On April 1, the Insurance Services Office (ISO) revised the Limestone Fire Protection District's public protection classification - from a Class 7/10 to a Class 5/10 - to reflect investments in capital and operational upgrades made by Limestone Fire Department. Fatal Home Fires Jumped Nearly 68% during Cooler Months
WASHINGTON, D.C. – “Home fire season” starts now, and the U.S. Fire Administration (USFA) is working to make this year’s cold months safer than last years—when there was a dramatic increase in home fire deaths. According to the USFA, during the “home fire season” of October 2007 to March 2008, there was a 68% increase in the number of fatal home fires and a 67% increase in the number of people killed in home fires, compared to the warmer months.

An observational survey of seat belt use, sponsored by the Oklahoma Highway Safety Office, measured how often drivers and front-seat passengers wore their seat belts. NFPA report finds overall decline in deaths and injuries
People at the highest risk of death in home structure fires are the very young and very old, according to the Characteristics of Home Fire Victims report released today by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA).

Claremore, OK – On Monday afternoon an emergency meeting was called by the Rogers County Commissioners at the County Courthouse. Commissioners declared a State of Emergency in the County on the advice of District Attorney Gene Haynes. During the meeting emergency response agencies from Claremore, Verdigris, Northwest, Limestone, Catoosa, Tiawah, Tri District and Pafford developed temporary coverage and response routes to areas that were isolated by last Thursday’s closing of Keetonville Road and SH20 at Keetonville Hill.
